I
was having dinner with a friend of mine recently. During our
conversation she asked of me, "Laura, I thought I knew what I
wanted. I'm still not sure of my choices. How do I know what are the
best decisions for me?"
Of course, I'm never sure I have the right answer for anything (I
may as well admit this to you right away). I can only know what's
right for me. And that answer is always the same: follow the
clouds. And this I told her. "For me," I said, "the clouds hold
the secrets to my life. And so does all of nature."
It's true. Looking back, life, for me, has been a kind-of canoe
ride... paddle a little, drift a little and always keep the boat
close to shore. I generally do follow the clouds too, and always,
always move with the tide.
Yes, dear readers, after all my years on earth, this is the best I
can do. This is all the information I have available. So I do hope
you will read forward, and not find yourself disappointed. Yet, I
can tell you this: this formula, when I've followed it, hasn't
failed me yet. And when I've strayed from this path I've paid... and
quite dearly I will admit.
Oh sure there are the occasional storms and down pours, but always
they've passed. Only if I've stayed on course.
While I'm at it, I may as well tell you, I think what we want is elusive.
This is my sole problem with the reams of self-help books that populate
bookstore shelves and reality television shows (don't get me started) or the
so called spiritual gurus that claim to have all the answers.
No. I'm having none of that. Telling nature what I want has never worked for
me. And to listen to them, they will say... spin around three times and
point to it. Then say this is what I want, Poof!
Oh no, it's not at all like that. At least not for me. It's more like a
dance, really. One I do with nature. It's more like me moving forward with
my dreams and agendas with one foot, and then letting nature make her next
bold move. And she always does. What's more, the outcome always exceeds my
expectations. Always.
I swear to you, it's never happened in any other way. For me it's been the
only formula for growth and evolution that I've ever known.
In all, my clouds do have much to say. For this dance of life they remind me
daily, there is a plan. There is a dance routine, a choreography of sorts
and it is written in the stars. Together we are moving in tandem, a couple
moving in time. We're moving in rhythm with the beat of our hearts. And
always it's the same: follow the clouds.
Yes, I can inside myself know where I want to go, but it's in the moment
that I have clarity to the skies and it is only nature that holds the key to
her treasures.
