Too Young to Feel Old: The Arthritis Doctor's 28-Day Formula for Pain-Free Living
A
Breakthrough Book - Written By
Dr. Richard H. Blau
Words cannot express the sadness an observer experiences when
someone they care about is struggling with the pain and
challenges of arthritis. For my family it's been the
autoimmune variety: debilitating Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). If you are like everyone
else in this world who knows someone with this dreadful condition,
you'll understand when I tell you, this sadness is exacerbated when
it steals the youth of a vibrant
young person. Not that being older makes arthritis any easier.
Never. It merely saddens me that most are under the dangerous impression that arthritis is only an
elderly persons affliction. Worse, this is just one of the many
myths and
misconceptions surrounding
arthritis.
The
challenges presented to the person with arthritis, young or old, can
compromise many once simple and knee-jerk activities of daily
living. It
brings with it a range of disturbances, from painful flare ups to fine motor compensation
which make it
difficult to write or even hold a pen, save the challenge of getting
out of bed. Some forms can even disfigure the body if not
treated in time.
The good news, if there is any, is it puts the larger lot of chronic illnesses (heart disease,
cancer and the like) and the statistics that surround them into a
fresh and interesting perspective. The more we read in the
realm of research and alternative treatments, the more we can
understand that we are much closer to the point of prevention,
reversal and even successful remission of their symptoms.
Here, if one wishes to do their
homework, they can do their best to feel a
certain sense of taking charge of their our own health.
Arthritis on the other hand, has statistics that are much more troubling.
And according to Dr. Richard H. Blau in his book Too Young To
Feel Old, one in every 7 people are affected. Worse, there
is currently no known cure for arthritis.

In This Political Season, Health Care
Reform is a Business Issue
By John Hammergren
It
would be easy, in this long run of
important presidential primaries, to be
convinced that the problems we have with
our health care system can only be
resolved through government action and
the political process. After all,
presidential candidates Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John McCain have each
made health care reform a central issue
of their campaigns. Political races are
all about emphasizing stark differences
between positions. But I am encouraged
by how much today’s political leaders
recognize that our health care crisis –
despite that word “care” – is
fundamentally a business problem.
California Governor Arnold
Schwarzenegger is one of those
politicians who understands the urgency
for reform. The health care company I
lead, McKesson Corporation, turned 175
years old this year. To help us
celebrate that proud milestone, Governor
Schwarzenegger spoke passionately and
convincingly about the opportunities we
have before us to bring the health care
industry to another level of excellence.

The Fattening of America: How The Economy Makes Us Fat, If It Matters, and What To Do About It
A
Breakthrough Book - Written By
Dr. Eric Finkelstein, Ph.D., M.B.A.
& Laurie Zuckerman
Dear
Reader, What are your immediate reactions to these
words:
"62 million adults in the United States are
obese. An additional 12.5 million kids are overweight."
"Due to increases in the prevalence of
childhood obesity, today's children may not live as long as their parents."
"The data suggests that about 70 percent of
diabetes cases in the United States are caused by excess weight."
"in 2004 the average American consumed 52
gallons of soft drinks, or an average of 16 ounces per day."
I don't know about you, but just the
viewing of these statistics alone makes me, well, lose my lunch. Where did
I find them? They come from an extremely reliable source: Health economist,
Dr. Eric Finkelstein. These research statistics, and more, are
documented in the new book
The
Fattening Of America: How The Economy Makes Us Fat, If It Matters, and What
to Do About It.
The book itself was written by he and
business journalist, Laurie Zuckerman. And what troubles me most about the
information found within the folds of its pages (besides the nauseating
statistics) are the conclusions I've drawn. Those that have crashed and
burned my own delusions of creating positive change through promoting health
and disease prevention.

Alternative Medicine Magazine's Definitive Guide to Cancer: An Integrative Approach to Prevention, Treatment, and Healing (Alternative Medicine Guides)
In
Hardcover - Written By
Lise Alschuler, ND and Karolyn A. Gazella
In the light of cancer
awareness month I can think of no better medium for taking back the power of
your body than the new book:
Alternative Medicine Magazine's Definitive Guide To Cancer. If knowledge
is power than authors
Lise Alschuler, ND and Karolyn Gazella
are well endowed. And their energy is contagious. Their book takes readers on a human journey,
one that travels
through the art and science of dealing with this life threatening illness.
Through this approach, in this
reader's opinion, they are successful
in making the disease seem less of a death sentence and more of an
uncovering of awareness. Further, we are privy
to their own stories: Alschuler's contribution to healing her own dad, and
Gazella's own heart-wrenching biographies including her mom, sister, as well
as her self. Therefore, to give a proper review to the
Definitive Guide To Cancer would take far more space than we have
here.
For our purposes, however, I can only hope to give the book the respect it
deserves. I'll aim to accomplish this by giving you the main points
as I see them - doing my best to stay true to what I feel are the authors'
intention. First: In the ways of disease prevention, the book gives us a
shocking reality:
genetics are only a part of the equation. And a very small part at that.
I'm sure I'm not giving away trade secrets from the research store when I tell you that the risks
of cancer as
Alschuler and Gazella define them come forth out of three other
main areas:
lifestyle choices, nutrition (or lack thereof) and environmental toxins. Therefore
here's what you should know: our first line of defense against cancer is prevention. Read More.... |
